FYBY is For Youth, By Youth News.

Our goal is to create a generation of empowered, critical thinkers that will use media to make their voices heard.

FYBY provides Ottawa’s youth the chance to gain knowledge about issues, opportunities and resources relevant to them. It is a tool for youth to express opinions, engage in discussion and create positive change within the community and world.

The organizing committee of FYBY news is composed of energetic local youth with a passion for current affairs who believe in the power of education and the media. We are currently recruiting volunteers to join our dynamic team. If youare interested in contributing to the FYBY program, please contact us!

What:
FYBY News is a program of Youth Ottawa. We provide Ottawaʼs youth the chance to acquire knowledge about issues, opportunities and resources relevant to them, and share this knowledge with other youth members through the production of videos. These videos are showcased live through a series of community events, online and are used by educators to enhance the classroom experience of a broader youth audience.

How:
We invite groups of youth (from community centers, high schools, organizations) to choose topics they care about and initiate dialogue and discussion with other youth, educators, and the community through the creation and presentation of their media product. We encourage youth to engage in a collaborative process with their peers while creating their media product which helps all parties develop team building and communication skills.

Why:
A survey done by the Commission de la Jeunesse d'Ottawa Youth Commission (CJOYC), which amplifies youth voice in City Hall, found that youth did not feel as though they had a media outlet relevant to them or that they had a way to connect with youth outside of their school.

The organizing committee of FYBY news is composed of local youth with a passion for current affairs who believe in the power of the media as a tool for education. If you think we could help you take ownership of your education, or help you have your voice heard, we'd love to work with you!
